Information about the Project

How to use this site

The purpose of this site is to be very user-controlled. The image that is created is controlled from the input the user provides from the options given. The opening screen provides the options that will be used for the opening image. From the opening selections, the initial spectrogram data is computed (at this time a delay will be experienced, but is not the fault of the conection but rather the time required to compute). The initial data is formatted for size (20+ MB down to as little as 2 KB) and then sent to the java applet. Through the java applet, the user can change some of the initial choices and also rotate, zoom, and translate the image to the specific need.

Upgrades to the performance and view of this site will be coming soon!

Why was it created?

The Spectrographic Project was created as a Co-Op activity for the Summer 2000 for Scott Zuidema. Grand Valley State's Engineering Department keeps on one student from their Co-Op program per year to do interesting projects such as the one here.

The advisor for the project has been Prof. Andrew Sterian, a member of the Engineering Faculty. Sterian's past work with music in his education, gave him the idea for the project as well as some of the tools for the project to succeed.
