This web site has pictures and recordings of the Sounds of Music event at Grand Valley State University's Michigan Science Olympiad competition. The co-ordinators for this event are John Bender and Andrew Sterian.
Read the rules! The rules change from year to year. Do not use last year's rules or last year's team as a basis for next year's competition. Students: make sure your coach has the latest copy of the rules. It won't hurt to read the rules yourself, too. Coaches are people too and sometimes make mistakes.
Remember: this is a Science olympiad. The technical interview represents a large part of the grade for this event, so make sure you really know your stuff! Note, for example, that in the 2003 competition, the technical interview was worth 30 points, and no team scored more than 15 out of 30.
Practice, practice, practice. The performance part of the competition was worth 20 points in the 2003 competition. There was a clear difference between teams that had practiced their pieces and teams that were not prepared.
