for
EGR 367 Manufacturing Project:
Guitar Stand
by: Matt Remelts
1-12:
- Brainstorm and preliminary sketches.
1-13:
- Design check with Prof. Jack.
1-15:
- Detail drawings of all components.
- base
- support rod
- cradle collar
- top support
- acoustic cradle
- electric cradle
1-17:
- Design approval and project go-ahead.
1-25:
- I worked on the base, support rod, cradle collar, and the
top support. I made the base out of 3/16" metal flat stock.
The sides were easily sheared and deburred. The hole in the center
was punched with a punch press. The top support was made in the
same way with an additional plasma cutting operation for the neck
locations.
- I suggest waiting to cut the neck locations until after the
cradles are welded on. This would allow for better centering of
the neck.
- The four main members were welded together, checking for squareness
in the process.
2-11:
- I worked on the electric and acoustic cradles. Everything
went well except the dimensions and bend angles changed somewhat.
I knew that the dimensions on the drawings were just ball park
figures, so this was not much of a surprise.
- I welded both of the cradles onto the cradle collar.
3-15:
- I put a coat of primer onto the stand after thoroughly cleaning
it to remove the residual oil.
- Next, I put three coats of flat black paint over the entire
structure.
4-16:
- I applied the plastic coating to the critical areas of the
cradles and the neck locators.
4-17:
- I took digital pictures of the stand and finalized the write-up.
4-18:
- Hand in project write-up.
