EGR 367 Manufacturing Project:

Guitar Stand

1. Base

- layout triangle on 3/16" sheet metal

- shear along layout lines

- deburr with disk sander

- layout 1/2" support rod hole

- punch hole with punch press

2. Top Support

- layout triangle on 1/8" sheet metal

- shear along layout lines

- layout neck cradles

- cut with plasma cutter

- deburr with disk sander

3. Cradle Collar

- layout triangle and support rod hole on 3/4" steel block

- drill and countersink 1/2" support rod hole with drill press

- cut triangle with contour saw

- deburr with belt sander

4. Support Rod

- mark 1/2" CRS rod to length

- cut with cut-off saw

- deburr with belt sander

5. Assembly

- tack weld support rod to base from bottom of punched hole

- check for squareness

- finish weld

- slide cradle collar onto support rod

- align and weld from the underside

- locate top support onto support rod

- align and weld

6. Acoustic Cradle

- cut two 1/2" CRS rods to length

- mark where the bends are located

- bend the rod

- check for correct guitar height and find necessary orientation of connecting rod (from the cradle to the cradle collar)

- weld connecting rod to collar

- weld cradle to connecting rod

7. Electric Cradle

- cut 1/2" CRS rod to length

- mark where bends are located

- bend the rod

- check for correct orientation and guitar height

- weld to cradle collar

8. Prime and paint.

9. Use liquid rubber to coat the main and neck cradles.
