Senior Project: Exhaust
Leak Detector
Sponsor: Benteler Automotive Corp.
Team Minutes
Date: July 23, 1998
Time: 9:00 AM
Organizational Issues:
-
In attendance:
-
Mark, A.J., Srini, and Shane
-
We were joined by Scott Schantz of Benteler to help us with
the flowmeter problem
Project Issues:
-
Scott informed us that the regulators, solenoids valves,
and possibly more components of the pneumatic box are shot.
-
He also said that the transducer was the wrong one.
-
We swapped out the regulators and transducer with the correct
ones but still had the testing problem.
-
A.J. went to Benteler and saw how a good 3100 flowmeter works.
It has not air leakage.
-
The flowmeter also has something electrically wrong with
it as well. Scott said that even with errors, the flowmeter should
always reset itself after each test.
-
Darryl said that the focus of the project is to see how small
of a leak can be detected with the smoke. He is not concerned if
the machine cannot test good parts. If we have to hit the e-stop
after every cycle, he says that that is OK.
-
Shane will call Benteler on Friday to see if we can get some
parts with known leak rates. These will be our test samples to determine
how small of a leak rate we can detect.
-
A.J. picked up an extra 35 series valve to vent the smoke.
He also picked up a 650° hose for the smoke machine.
-
We are going to jumper the "on/off" button on the flowmeter
to avoid people turning it on and off.
-
The Operations Manual will reflect the proper operation of
the machine assuming we will have a working flowmeter and pneumatic box.
It will not take into account that we may actually have to reset the system
after every use.
-
Shane has begun the poster for the design show.
-
Shane has a preliminary bill of materials completed.
-
We will be finishing the project summary on Monday afternoon,
including appendices and other testing data.
-
The operations manual is almost complete. Shane will
pick up some 3 ring binders for the manuals.
-
Mark will update the needed schematics for the poster and
give them to Shane on Monday.
-
A.J. will bring some sort of camera on Monday to get the
picture of the test stand for the poster. Shane can print this out
at work on the color laser printer.
Action items for the final week:
-
Finish documentation
-
Hook up hose to smoke machine.
-
Hook up new valve (vent) to smoke machine. This must
be hooked up backwards to product the correct result. (1 input, 2
outputs)
-
Update the schematics.
-
Present the project.
-
Get the h*@# out of town!!!!!!
Other Issues:
-
Our final progress report is due Tuesday, July 28
Next Meeting: Day-to-day.
Agenda:
-
Do whatever comes naturally.
