2005-2006 National Directives
Greetings NSBE,
|
If the adage, “it gets better the second time around” is true then we have
a lot to look forward to this year. As your re-elected chairperson for the
2005-2006 term, it gives me great pleasure to set the platform for this
year. With the hiring of new Executive Director, Carl B. Mack and a new
strategic plan we are charting a new course for NSBE. We are building on a
foundation of change that demands membership involvement, increases our
outreach, and focuses on the “E” in NSBE. Our concentration on signature
programs, will lead to a more efficient and productive programmatic year.
Fulfillment of our mission will be accomplished through the following
National Directives: |
|
Social Consciousness
NSBE’s involvement in community based education and
engineering issues will be exemplified via an International Walk for
Education. While maintaining our attention on industrial issues we will
increase our participation in the Technical Out Reach Community Help program
(TORCH) program.
Leadership Development
With the expansion of the National Leadership Institute
into a year round leadership development program, online leadership training
will be provided for all demographics while expanding the benefits of
leadership. As participation in the Chapter Development Program becomes
mandatory for the 2006-2007 year, our efforts will be centered on
implementation and awareness of the program to increase chapter involvement.
Academic and Technical Excellence
The revised Achievers Plus program includes Pre-College- PhD related academic
foci in addition to a technical professional component that concentrates on
Special Interest Groups. Furthermore, NSBE On Line will be utilized to enhance
academic proficiency and professional training.
Membership Recruitment and Retention
Encouraging every member to get a new member,
reactivating defunct chapters, and identification of new areas for
international expansion will assist us in increasing our membership to a
minimum of 20,000 by the close of the 2006 National Convention. The
development of membership profiles which allow members to discover the two
NSBE programs fitting for their goals will serve as a vehicle for chapters to
support retention while we refine our recruitment and retention strategies.
If every chapter streamlines their operations to concentrate on the core
components of each National Directive, we will blaze a new trail on the
technical landscape and make great strides in ensuring this is an organization
unparalleled. Remember we have work to do and miles to go before we sleep.
Thanks in advance for your continued support and commitment to fulfilling the
mission of NSBE.
Sincerely,
Chancee` Lundy
