The Basic Steps to design a gear are outline below:

• Given :

1. Pitch = 16 selected
2. N1= 16 teeth and N2 = 80 teeth.
3. Pressure angle of 22.5 degrees

Using given information pitch diameters can be calculated for both pinion and gear.

• The base circles were than determined using the pressure angle and pitch diameters found in step one.
• Using excel, the involute for both the gear and pinion were calculated. See excel worksheet in text format. or See the excel file worksheet.
• Using excel, save the involute geometry points in CSV format to import into Autocad using the following Program produced Professor Hugh Jack (IMPORT.LSP)
• Create gear in Autocad using calculated figures in excel file.See autocad drawing of gear.
• Export the Autocad drawing using the export (.DXF)function to Working Model Program. See .dfx file or See working model file of gear 1.
