Engineering Design Show

This event was worth while going to for any person in or using industry. It was interesting to go as a student and a design engineer. Many operations or results thereof, that were just previously mentioned in class, were there to be witnessed. The show gave me new insight on what could be incorporated into many new and old deigns. The only problem that I had was not enough time. What is new? I think if I had more time, however, that I would not pick much else up. I had my fill after one day.

The show had products and processes that could have been seen or obtained or discovered by not attending. What I mean is that if a product is desired you could do research anywhere to find it. What was nice about the show was that it provided many companies in one facility that had representatives and products in areas of particular interest. It is not always possible to get a personal show by many vendors in one day.

The show also let me satisfy some personal inquiries on many areas of manufacturing processes that could help me be a better designer. I saw the results of many casting processes, which has become of particular interest of late. I needed to know the quickest time and the best processes for casting prototypes. Another area of interest was the insulation companies displays. I viewed them in the light of heat transfer and the desired additions such as noise reduction. This was of particular interest because of building a house and the research I have done on insulation. I wanted to see where the individual companies differentiate their product and what was there sales pitch that curved the understanding of the general public.

I did not realize that I picked this much out of the show when I had left. So next year I plan on doing this again as I narrow my field of research. Now I realize that any show such as this can be a useful tool.
