 EGR 486 Progress Report

 Name                 Adam W. Chan
 Date                  July 17, 1998
 Project Title      Flipper Door Change
 Sponsor             Herman Miller, Inc.

Major accomplishments since last report:

Continued improvement on the fabrication and assembly.  Interim report has been handed in by Joel and it would appear as if he has a good handle on the documentation for the final technical report.

Major problems since last report:

The "T-Clip" that came in does not work.  The manufacturer took some liberties and changed our design with out notifying us.  We are expecting 100 feet of the "T-Clip" we specified by the end of this week.  They called and told us the finish on the parts was not a quality material and they again had canceled our P.O. Again we called them back and complained in a very harsh tone till we got them to commit to sending us another sample.
The company we had purchased our rotating actuators from didn't place the order with the manufacuter so they are red express shipping them to us as soon as they are put together.
After assembling the stretching device for our fabric we noticed we had a continuing "kink" problem between the "T-Bearing" and the shaft.  We were not able to alleveiate this problem so we have again re-designed the process.  Working model had us to believe we could get this process to work however working model does not take into account real-life hang-ups, such as bearing tolerance, machining tolerance and heat problems.  Therfore all the work Jeff Maxim did on his stretching device, plus my latest design has failed, so we have gone back to re-design and have a new simpler process in mind that we hope works.
Other than these things were doing fine!

Objectives for next week:

Continued assembly of the machine as well as documentation.
Improve on problems listed above and finish the actual assembly and begin debugging.
