The design and engineering show was held at the McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. I was interested in gathering general engineering information and information relating to Senior project, specifically roller bearings, flexible tubing and FEA software.
One exhibitor dealing with flexible tubing had a product that could withstand high temperatures. They are sending us a catalogue along with some other related information, since it has application to our senior project.
A number of bearing exhibitors were consulted to help find a bearing that was suitable for our senior project application. A studded bearing exhibitor was also consulted for the bearing application, this is the best solution at this point in our design.
FEA software systems were consulted to see what was out there, not for senior project. The system that impressed me was by a company called Bentley. They offered a very user friendly interface that had a built in solid modeler, FEA and mechanical dynamics packages. The price was also in line with the other name brands.
The show over all was valuable to me as a young engineer. It helped to understand the different engineering components that are out there and different configurations that the components can be used in.
